COMMON NAME:  Golden Lion Tamarin (GLT)
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Leontopithecus rosalia
DIET:  Mainly fruit and nectar. Also insects.
YOUNG:  Twins are frequently born. The lead female begins having young when she reaches 18 months of age. The entire group raises the Golden Tamarin babies.
HABITAT:  Swampy forests in the eastern part of Brazil.
FACTS:

• Golden Tamarins form small communities of two to nine animals - although sometimes as many as 14.
• At night, Tamarins sleep in abandoned nesting holes in trees.
• Tamarins have sharp, nail-like claws which help them climb straight up tree trunks.
