The lead female begins having young when she reaches 18 months of age. The entire group raises the Golden Tamarin babies. HABITAT: Swampy forests in the eastern part of Brazil. FACTS:
GLTs sleep in tree holes, which are used for heat conservation and protection from predators.
The tamarins give alarm calls in response to strange events or threatening animals.
Tamarin groups actively defend a territory against other GLTs. Territories average about a hundred acres.
