But Maddie wouldn't hear of that. Even though she was a quiet mouse-girl most of the time, the dangerous situation charged her up with a new-found bravery.

"I'm here to rescue my friends and you can't trap them!" she shouted. She raised her fighting staff and swung it at the selfish Queen. "My friends didn't know the damage they were doing and you tricked them with your magic into not seeing it."

The Queen easily blocked the swing of Maddie's staff and pushed her back. That a mouse-girl would EVEN try to threaten her was insulting. The waves of energy the Queen used to repel Maddie pushed her off her feet. As Maddie fell to the ground, her fighting stars fell out of her bag. Maddie started getting angry at the Queen with all her tricks, and she felt her throat painfully tighten with these emotions. 

"Don't get upset Maddie, don't feel anything!" warned Kicker. "She'll use it against you."
