Maddie walked into the woods. She walked down a path and walked to the big lake. When she got to the lake she took the huge emerald out. 

She held it up and looked at it in the sunlight. It was perfect.

Maddie wanted to keep this special jewel. But she knew that wouldn't be right. It didn't belong to her. 

So Maddie made a decision.

With one big throw, Maddie threw the gem into the lake. Hopefully it would reach the beautiful Emerald Queen.

"Go to your true owner," Maddie whispered as she turned to go home.

And deep from the water a voice was heard by the frogs and birds of the lake. 

"Thank you, sweet mouse. Thank you for being fair."

And Maddie heard it too. And this made her happy.
